ONBOARDING REPORT GENERATOR
Introduction
RVTools is a VMware utility that connects to a vCenter and gathers information with an impressive level of detail on the VMware environment (e. g. on virtual machines, on ESX hosts, on the network configuration). The data collection is fast and easy. The end result can be stored in a Microsoft Excel file. RVTools exports are a great way to collect data on VMware environments. However, analyzing RVTool exports especially of complex environments can be time-consuming, error-prone and cumbersome.
The purpose of Onboarding Report Generator is to automatize and simplify the analysis of RVTools exports and to give a visual presentation of the information contained within an Excel file or a comma seperated file.
Instructions
The use of Onboarding Report Generator is designed to be simple and should be self-explanatory. Just upload the Excel file (recommended) or the comma seperated file after inserting a title and author name and hit Generate Report. If using the .csv file the tabvInfo.csv should be uploaded.
The RVTools export should at least contain the following columns:
VM, Powerstate, CPUs, Memory, Network #1, Provisioned MB, In Use MB, Datacenter, Host, OS according to the configuration file
Caution
The Excel file should not be altered in any kind, e. g. by inserting comments, changing column names or inserting new rows manually.

ADD / REMOVE LICENSES
Use these controls to add licenses not found in the RVTools export or to remove any entry from the aggregated table below.
To remove a license, first select the row in the 'Aggregated & Editable Legacy License Details' table below, then click 'Remove Selected'.
Licenses that are normally not contained in an RVTools export include the Telco Cloud, VMware Integrated Openstack (VIO), VMware vCloud Director, VMware vRealize, HCX and NSX components. Please request the parts and quantities for these separately to your customer.
AGGREGATED & EDITABLE LEGACY LICENSE DETAILS
This table shows all licenses from uploaded RVTools files plus any you have added manually. Select a row and click 'Remove' above to delete it.
ABOUT THIS APPLICATION
This application provides a high-level comparison between legacy VMware perpetual licensing and the new Broadcom subscription model. It ingests one or more RVTools XLSX files to analyze your environment's configuration.
How to Use
- Use the 'Pricing estimator' controls in the sidebar to upload one or more RVTools XLSX files.
- Use the currency selector to change the display currency for all estimates.
- Navigate to the 'Legacy License Details' tab to see an aggregated list of all licenses.
- Use the 'Add / Remove Licenses' controls to add new license types or remove any existing rows (from files or manual adds) to model different scenarios.
- The dashboard and cost calculations will update instantly with every change.
- Navigate to the 'Host Details' tab for a per-file breakdown of your physical hosts.
